Instead of learning a language that could actually benefit in me in life, I've decided to commit to learning Coptic.

@fyf papayas yes.

@fyf learn interpretative dances
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:43:33 UTC from web -
@fyf At least you won't get made fun of for knowing Coptic *chuchote doucement en francais*
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:44:35 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal You can rub it in everyone's faces, however, that French is the third most spoken language in the world.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:45:58 UTC from web-
@insanebowdash I know English is first, but what's second?
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:46:32 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal My guess is Spanish
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:46:41 UTC from web -
@northernnarwhal Spanish.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:46:44 UTC from web-
@insanebowdash Called it

@northernnarwhal It's Coptic.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:49:40 UTC from web-
@fyf How do I say "Ellie is a pleb" in Coptic?
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:50:34 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal The closest to plebian is gallabīyah, which means worker, which in ancient Egypt implied peasant.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:56:07 UTC from web-
@fyf Filthy Ellie peasant race and glorious Emily master race
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:56:44 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal I can't actually say the word for what Emily because it would be censored.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:59:03 UTC from web-
@fyf Just find the word for "best" and you should be okay
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 01:01:04 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal The acceptable word would be netjeret, which means Goddess.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 01:03:50 UTC from web-
@fyf That sounds nicer than la deesse too

@insanebowdash In number of speakers or nuber of countries where it is spoken?
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:52:17 UTC from web-
@nerthos Number of "native" speakers, perhaps including those who are bilingual.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:54:20 UTC from web-
@insanebowdash If that's the case the most spoken language in the world is Mandarin.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:55:13 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal But I like to think that presence in culture is an important factor as well.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:55:40 UTC from web -
@northernnarwhal I kind of figured that wasn't English.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:55:50 UTC from web-
@insanebowdash English is still a No.3 which is quite high, but French is down at 18
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:57:09 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal That's surprising, maybe in the former African continents other languages are becoming officialised.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:57:45 UTC from web-
@insanebowdash I think the other problem is that languages like Mandarin and Hindi are so high is because their respective nations have massive populations, but those languages aren't necessarily the most prevalent throughout the world.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:59:06 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal Hindi is on it's way to getting replaced in officialism by Sanskrit if one is to believe the linguistic news coming from there.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 01:00:39 UTC from web-
@insanebowdash There's that too. So maybe saying "most spoken language in the world" isn't necessarily just on how many people overall know the language, but also its relevance.
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 01:02:47 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal I was also going off a list that was told to me in ESL about 15 years ago...
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 01:03:30 UTC from web-
@insanebowdash Yeah, that's definitely another factor

@nerthos That's a good question. If it's just by Native speakers Mandarin is actually on top, followed then by Spanish and English. Poor old Francais is down at 18. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:54:44 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal portuguese is the 6th =D.
Japanese is the 9th
coolWednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:59:13 UTC from web-
@mushi At least I have one language I'm fluent in that's in the top 10
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 00:59:54 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal i'm actually fluent only in portuguese, so i'm int he same place
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 01:00:47 UTC from web-
@mushi To be fair your English is very strong, or at least your written English is
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 01:01:49 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal Well, the times i've talked in english people said they could understand me despite my thick accent, but i never talked enought to see how far i could go on the conversation
Wednesday, 10-Sep-14 01:03:05 UTC from web-
@mushi I have a surprisingly flat voice when I'm talking in English and in French, though a few guys I've Skype called with have noted a few of my "Canadianisms"
