          1. @palutena Anything you can tell me what define Metal?

Saturday, 04-Oct-14 23:48:17 UTC from web
            1. @metalnarwhal That's a bit of a hard question. Stylistically metal in its earliest incarnations was categorized through its roots in blues and psychedelic whilst being considerably louder in sound and darker in tone than its contemporaries at the time, but really these days metal has branched out into so many distinct styles and sub-genres its difficult to properly define it without being incredibly general.

              1. @palutena Oh damn... well, can you define one genre of Metal? Maybe your favorite?

                1. @metalnarwhal I'll try black metal since I still listen to a fair bit of that. Black metal, originating in the early 90s in Scandinavian Europe, is distinct from other genres of extreme metal music in that dynamically it's earliest groups featured very low fidelity recordings and had very high pitched shrieks in terms of vocal delivery as opposed to lower growls. The guitar portions are very important and often feature many heavy distorted tremelo picked sections that syncopate with blast beats on drums. Generally, song structures are unconventional and are usually short pieces or larger pieces separated by movements. The genre has since evolved to incorporate large amounts of atmosphere into its core sound, especially with newer waves of western black metal groups. This is pretty general but a basic idea of the genre.

                  2. @palutena But, what does Tremelo mean?

                    1. @metalnarwhal Basically repetition of a single note in a similar fashion of a trill or alternating between notes in two separate chords quickly. Sort of like a vibrato on strings.

                      1. @palutena OH! That analogy made t a bit more clearer! That should be a very fast definition correct?

                            1. @metalnarwhal You could call it that. More like "I don't have a life and just listen to a bunch of music in my free time" but that works too.
