          @thelastgherkin Crossguards are supposed to protect your hands from the opposing weapons- not from sliding up to your own blade.

            @soren Sure, making out of pure plasma would protect your hands from the other guy's lightsaber, but twist your wrist too far in the wrong direction and bid adieu to your forearm.

          @thelastgherkin It's pitch dark. You can't even see the shape of the hilt, so there could easily metal around the base.
