Yeah that's so weird. I remember Windows networking in a LAN being much simpler, but with Windows 7 and its Homegroups thing (even though we never use it) I can't join my family's servers over a LAN, and they can't share mine. Can't access any of their shares with Samba either (but then again I couldn't access them on Windows either). Man.

@coffeecream I never use homegroups and my LAN's work perfectly, no questions asked... What is the subnet and default gateway for both computers here ?

@critialcloudkicker 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.1.1, all the computers have that either configured statically or get that off the router :\ I feel like it must be something with Windows though... I can't share a Minecraft world over Windows (nobody else sees it, yes I've checked Windows Firewall and even turned it off), but works just fine in Linux

@critialcloudkicker Windows and Linux? Yes, they are on the same system, but they are both configured to use the same address on the network... Unless you mean the addresses I gave, that's my subnet and default gateway (the router)

@coffeecream Wait you are confusing me. Are you trying to get multiple IP's for diffrent OS's using the same NIC or something ? I was asking "what is the IP and what is the subnet on both PC's you are trying to hook up through lan ?"

@critialcloudkicker Sorry for getting back to you so soon :) So you are asking about the two computers I am trying to connect? Their IPs are 192.168.1.15 (client) and 192.168.1.42 (server, my computer) and their subnets are both 255.255.255.0 - but, and I apologise if this is irrelevent, usually nobody on the network can connect to me when I am the server

@coffeecream I would do a couple of ping tests, and perhaps tracert tests
