I wasted half a day on fixing my mother's PC. More precisely Firefox. It opened every few minutes an error message that its profile couldn't be loaded. However it was all caused by Kaspersky Anti Virus. Deactivating it made it not complain again.

@adiwan Desktop Linux distros are fine but after a while but I got tired of FrankerZing with them. I'd rather use my computer to make stuff than have tinkering with it be an end unto itself, because it makes me crazy.

@thismightbeauser I know. ChromeOS lacks the customization and the hardware itself is too expensive for what it's worth. My mother doesn't need to configure it, I need it whenever there is a problem.

@drinkingpony As a consumer of the new canon (having all the comics that came after the switch) and having only glimpses of experience with the old canon I'm heavily biased. As far as I have gathered the old canon is guilty of several stupid things like clones of Palpatine and Luke and such that appears to be fan-fictiony as well.
Jonathan Chouinard likes this. -
@adiwan You forgot the clones of Luke named Luuke and Luuuke ( no really ).
But yeah, fair point. All movies have severe faults and cracks in them. However it took Disney only 2 mainline movies to break the fandom. The two biggest sides seem to be those who absolutely love it and defend it so hard till their mind seems to break ( warning, 2 hour podcast of someone whose mind seems to break defending the movie https://youtu.be/bXs0LXqK2SM ). Those who still come out with movies why it all sucked and why it is all going to hell. I am not even sure if that 'side' is actually truthfull when they shout 'Please make Brie Larson a Jedi, let it all die !' or not.
Meanwhile I like to see myself as in the middle and heavily in the minority.

Hmm, Well, Extra Credits did it again. This time they tried to jam the idea of "Nazi's are bad people !" into their talk about video games so hard that they are now about receiving 20 thumbs down for every 6 thumbs up.
Meanwhile, yeah I agree with the general message behind what they are saying. We must stop trying to normalize the idealisms of Nazi's. However to blame Video Gamers is Jack Thompson levels of insane to me, especially if you see how the arguements are formed.
Heck I am sure that the fact that there is a president in the U.S.A. who is being called a Nazi like clockwork is doing harm to 'normalize the Nazi's' than a game called "The life of Erwin Rommel, the VR experience"
No use looking that up either, I just had to think of a stupid game title and I had a brain fart about Fennec Foxes earlier...Wednesday, 03-Jul-19 23:23:30 UTC from web- Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

@drinkingpony Honestly all they can achieve with this is getting nazis to be seen positively in the long run. Think jews for example, they were universally disliked up until wwii, the nazis screwed up so badly with it than they became a group you can't criticize in most of the western world.
More so since what they call "nazis" have nothing to do with what an actual nazi is. Trump is a good example, he might have not delivered on most of the stuff he promised, but anyone else would be laureate after as US president being one of three main actors in the end of the korean war and restart of diplomatic relationships between the DPRK and the USA. Give it a few decades, and once the groups that screech about Trump cease to exist, he'll be seen in an overwhelmingly positive way in historical retrospectives. If these idiots conflate the words "nazi" and "trump", the logical conclussion is that he's a nazi, and therefore nazis are a boogeyman, okish people that are hated by fanatical groups. -
@nerthos You know, I agree with you. But you should probably go watch the video. Heck go with the straight up reply video of this guy https://youtu.be/KngleLumR_U .
I guess the biggest problem is that EC thinks that we should stop to normalize the Nazi's. Those being ACTUAL Nazi's and their ideology, by being extremely patronising to the point of nausea in Multiplayer Games.
Also to tinker with the matchmaking system to do the opposite of rewarding Nazi's. Which is just a system so insane that the moment you write it down you realize that you punish ALL players because your game has Nazi's in them.
Also it was stated that because 'safeguards are being eroded', you might not go off of a website like stormfront because you do not mind playing as Hanz Mit Der Flammenwerfer in some game.
But the birth of a meme, the absolute beginning. "There you are, playing a game, and all of a sudden bam you're a Nazi, you did not ask for this" is golden. I mean, you did buy the game.Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

Oh for the love of eating solid food... Which is really a thing everyone takes for granted and I am pretty sure Bronn would be able to tell you everything about if he actually breaks his jaw in the books. I digress.
Just saw S8E5 of GoT. There is SO MUCH wrong with this episodes I can not begin to explain. Though if I had to begin somewhere willy-nilly I guess I would say that Sandor ( The Hound ) and Gregor ( The Mountain ) 'finally' fight. I do say 'finally' because that is just what I wanted (( SARCASM )). So in the fight Gregor slowly takes off armor by one means or the other untill Sandor is finally smart enough to stab him in the eyesocket, at which point the one who is stabbed just pulls it out.
So Sandor just jumps at Gregor in a full on tackle hug scenario and breaks through the remainder of the tower wall and fall to their doom.
Then in the "Making of the episode" they talk about how Sandor overcame his fear of fire to kill a bigger foe.
How far did you think they fell ?Monday, 01-Jul-19 22:29:14 UTC from web- Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

What I would like to know is how in the world I lost a LED belonging to a DIY kit. Perhaps more importantly, just what do I need to know in order to place a LED in a circuit ? If I look at the diagram/scematic of the thing it seems to pretty much jam a LED and a 10K resistor straight between DC12-18 and what I can assume is ground. In the past few days I watched S8E3 and S8E4 of Game of Thrones. To say that I am agitated would be downplaying it.
No spoiler version would be : Logic is thrown out the window to make cool scenes. Consistency of powers and weaknesses are all over the place, Bran uses his superpowers of watching past present and future to browse designs of wheelchairs, Characters get to do AMAZING feats when the camera is not directed at them directly, you see way too many things die to things you can not see, you also see way to many things not die to things you can see and then randomly dissapear just so the audience will scream out the name of their favorite character to see them absolutely fine in the next shot, characters acting stupid for no reason, characters betraying the previous 7 seasons by means of storytelling. But perhaps the biggest 2... granting every tactician an anyeurism thanks to excessive facepalming... and do not even get me started on Resident Evil goes Game of Thrones. #rantThursday, 27-Jun-19 23:58:07 UTC from web- RDN's Lucifer and Jonathan Chouinard like this.
