@yodeleerie [obligatory recommendation]
I really like it. One of the most creatively designed action-adventure games you'll ever play. -
@yodeleerie His Psychonauts review encompasses a lot of my personal thoughts about the game really well
-
@yodeleerie Oh yeah, I usually keep up with Yahtzee's stuff. I don't necessarily agree with him all the time but he always makes great points with clever analogies and tends to articulate really well.

@yodeleerie This is lye, the crucial ingredient. The lye combined with the melted fat of the bodies til a thick white soapy discharge crept into the river. May I see your hand, please?

@yodeleerie That's right, one could make all kinds of explosives using simple household items.

@yodeleerie @nightmarenarwhal man i'm glad i now how to make a functional pop filter in a jiffy because lord knows how many times I find myself without one in the wild
-
@yodeleerie It's not hard to even just make one DIY either, you're just filtering frequencies anyway

@yodeleerie They're an acquired taste. You have to have a patience and appreciation for the classic JRPG model of gameplay to enjoy them, and since I grew up playing lots of JRPGs the formula feels very familiar and comfortable to me. It's really understandable how someone would be bored by a Final Fantasy game as they're not really action packed or engage with the player directly. I think FF VII is a great game but it's not my favourite in the series (it's not even my favourite PS1 Final Fantasy game, which is FF IX). I don't really care for FF XIII, that's one of the weakest in the whole series for me and I didn't enjoy it. My absolute favourite is FF VI on the SNES, which is actually a game I hold in very high regard for having a lot of depth in its admittedly simplistic turn based system but also for juggling an entire ensemble of dynamic character arcs incredibly well and featuring one of gaming's most charismatic and effective villains.
-
@yodeleerie Yup! For a series that was conceptualized as a Final Fantasy spinoff (even though by the first game it was entirely its own thing) it's been much more engaging than any recent Final Fantasy game
-
@yodeleerie Good plan
-
@yodeleerie Yeah, I think KH could accomplish the same narrative feats with more direct writing but the larger overarching story of KH never really concerned me that much anyway, it's more of just a vehicle for the gameplay and characters

@yodeleerie I haven't played BbS but my brother has it on his PSP so maybe I'll play it over the Christmas break when he's chillin back at home. My favourite side game out of the ones I've played is probably Days.
