The reason they are different is because of their internal makeup and structure. A proton has 2 up quarks and a down quark, whereas an electron is an elementary particle (no substructures). Now why they are charged, THAT'S the question... Nopony knows right now (But yeah, I love physics, and I want to get a PhD in Quantum!)"}
