I've seen cattle branded via the burn method and they have a much higher pain tolerance then you'd expect. It's nowhere near torture for the animals, but I guess freeze banding is also good. Microchips can also be easily removed by cattle rustlers, while a simple brand will make all their efforts in vain."}
