An overtone is a harmonic related to the fundamental frequency. We can't hear all the overtones, since our hearing caps off at like 18k for the average adult, but a cats hearing goes up to to about 65k. If what you're listening to has some stringed instruments that might be creating overtones, that might be what kitty's hearing.
