This is my hangup. You gave University Days a try, which iirc is a pretty long story, you stuck with it, and you enjoyed it. I spent a good deal of time forming an in-character development from "green isn't your color" to expand upon the traditions in Rarity and Fluttershy's friendship while applying the age-old theme of friendship blossoming into something more. And as I am a big Disney fan, whom I feel capture G-rated romance almost perfectly every time, I am a huge proponent of tasteful writing and apply that to my work. I just feel it is unfair for my work to be judged against uninformed generalizations based on other fans' prior works, which I avoided reading on purpose to set my writing apart. I'm not demanding you read my work, but I just feel unfairly judged on terms that don't really apply to me or my work."}
