For a while when I was into prog my favourite band was Between the Buried and Me (and I still like them these days though I haven't really listened to them in a while) and they were all about those really long ass conceptual pieces (hell, their most recent album is a space opera about the end of the universe told through a 30 minute EP and 72 minute LP). But it's fun and interesting because the songwriting is really engaging too, and while technical it's not just a bunch of batcaveery. I respect the talent of Symphony X but their music can't hold my attention at all."}
