To get that achievement you need to get a 10k coin *profit* from either the slots or the chocobo races. This means stepping away from them with 10k more coins than you sat down with. You do still need to do the 50k coins from the slots thing for a fragment *anyway* though, so might as well kill two birds with one stone.
