I assumed you were listening on the PC if you were using FLAC, so I'm not sure about how you're bouncing it around. As for speed and network strain, I have my computer and my NAS both plugged into a gigabit router. Transfer speeds are usually pretty good, but I've never actually enabled the media sharing side of mine.
