I don't consider going to college a mistake, but I should certainly have moved schools to do it. I one AS level in IT and one in Biology. My previous employer sent me to Northampton university where I did a 3 year HNC in Computer Science. The jobcenter paid for me to do the ECDL, on which I achieved the dubious honor of answering exam questions so fast I crashed the exam software. It's extremely basic IT, but it's also required that you have one if you wanna do government work, so having one already can give you an edge if you're applying to work for the NHS or a council. To be totally honest the most useful qualification I've gotten has actually been my drivers license, as it massively increased the radius I could look for jobs in.
