They're fast, hit hard and regenerate health. I'm guessing you're doing the quest with the magic paintbrush? If so, you should have gotten or found (can't quite remember where you get them) some poison that you can apply to your weapon which lets you kill them far easier. Not sure about the orc, it's possible he just happens to be a tough enemy with nice equipment. Might have to go and level a bit before you try to take him down. And also find some nice gear.
