Aside from the short list of active groups on the right side of <a href="http://rainbowdash.net/group/" title="http://rainbowdash.net/group/" rel="nofollow external">this page</a>, and the Promoted notices to the right of the homepage, I'm not really sure what to suggest. Posting to a group you've joined <i>will</i> notify other members which may help boost activity a tiny bit, but other than that I don't know how you can search for active groups.
