His specialization was not initially that of an author but rather a cartographer, so he was able to build incredibly detailed and cultured worlds that were developed and fleshed out, but this also meant that sometimes the story and characters played second fiddle to his world in his writing, whereas the films are much more heavily character driven.</html>
