Mods make sense. Stuff you can sell for platinum: mods, prime blueprints and parts, rank 0 faction weapons, and arcane (phased out stat-changing) helmets. In any case you should invest the platinum in warframe and weapon slots. You'll run out of those kinda fast unless you don't like to keep your gear. As for warframes, I suggest you hit Jupiter and get a Valkyr to try it. She's a godsend. Allows you to easily solo pretty much anything except defense/interception missions with her ridiculous armor and 30s invulnerability ability.
