I started drawing when EqD did the newbie artist training ground and I kept doing it everyday since, so all I draw are ponies. Which means i've only been sketching for a few months now. Here attached is one I did on my 2nd or 3rd day (sorry for that bad photo quality). I used guides, lots of guides and advice from a pencil artist friend IRL. I practiced alot and still do, every single day I draw at least 1 thing. That contributed more than anything else!
