I poured steaming hot tea into my mug and didn't put a thought into waiting for it to cool down for a short while. But other to the actual case of that happening it's a great idea for using it as a metaphor for various things. Your interpretation fits it well. It can also applied to saying things that are potentially false or need more time to be sure they are not.
