In the end I got a barely appealing wooden frame without top and bottom such that a plastic bucket can be placed into it, in a way that the rim of the bucket sits on top of the box's edge. I also 3D-printed feet so the box allows water to drain and evaporate. My biggest problem was that none of my tools allowed me to do any accurate work and I did a very sloppy measuring and pencil marking job.
