More precisely the plastic parts broke. The plastic was disintegrating for a while now but it broke catastrophically in half. I'm glad I have some basic CAD skills. I already 3d-printed the first prototype but I mis-measured a few dimensions because it was hard to reach them with the calipers. Some other dimensions on the other hand were wrong just because I was dumb.
