After some drying time it turned from dark purple to something I'd call black. A few minor spots needs another round of treatment because I've missed them or the wood didn't want to absorb the stain that well. Tomorrow I'll add a coat or two of clear varnish. After that I need to paint the inside with some acrylic paint to hide my finger prints and blotches from the stain (thankfully I used gloves). Another idea I have is to glue in a ferromagnetic plate on the inside of the lid for some magnetic storage options....
