  13. @awl The musician in me wants to say "inverted homograph"

  14. @tiffany I tried searching too and couldn't find anything

Saturday, 13-Feb-16 14:47:49 UTC from web in context
  15. @awl no prob, in this case it was just due to the limitations of written language

Saturday, 13-Feb-16 14:44:27 UTC from web in context
  16. @tiffany It wouldn't be wrong to call them synonyms, but synonyms refers broadly to words with the same meaning and isn't exclusive to a more particular case the way a word like "homograph" is

Saturday, 13-Feb-16 14:43:52 UTC from web in context
  17. @tiffany I mean, I guess they're technically synonyms but I'm not sure if such a word exists to specifically describe the relationship of two words with the same meaning and tense from the same root word that have different spellings and/or pronunciations. Damn language, man.

Saturday, 13-Feb-16 14:39:46 UTC from web in context
  18. @awl Oh, I thought you were still talking about the past participle of "dive"

Saturday, 13-Feb-16 14:36:43 UTC from web in context
  19. @tiffany Yeah, homographs are when they're spelled the same but have different meanings.

Saturday, 13-Feb-16 14:34:39 UTC from web in context
  20. @awl Actually, I think "dove" and "dived" are the opposite of homographs, since they are both pronounced and spelled differently but have the same meaning. I don't actually know the word for this kind of relationship between words, though.

Saturday, 13-Feb-16 14:31:54 UTC from web in context
  21. @awl I'm fine with either, but my past participle of choice would be "dove" because it comes more naturally to me (it's the preferred participle here)
