@northernnarwhal The thing about it is the weird graphics. I've always maintained that it's almost impossible to suck a person into a virtual world with "realistic" graphics. You notice the flaws and consciously know it's trying and failing to emulate the real world. A game with it's own, distinct world and look can draw you in, as your brain will have an easier time taking it as a "real" thing with it's own rules and details instead of comparing it to the real world. It's the same reason I'd get really immersed in 2.5D games back in the day and even get spooked by them at times, but I absolutely can't with any modern horror game.
