12 years ago today would have been maybe 2 weeks after my first furlough, which I spent actually visiting the homeland. I had learned all sorts of great things from the people I met there including someone who was from the village next to the one where I was born. We talked about what happened there, his family, the lake, the problems with the country... he kind of lost me when he started cursing (and when we switched to Abkhaz) but overall it was good thing. My squadmates said I was a much different person than from when I left. Gave me all sorts of mango for not going to any beaches or women.
