@derpyshy Wait, is that Photoshop? AFAIK that's not cross-platform-compatible, so unless you're fine with switching to GIMP or Inkscape, you should at least leave Windows on your dual-boot (WINE should work, but is never really a great solution).

@purplephish20 Okay, let me get this straight. Because of the availability for software on a certain platform, the platform itself is better? That's like saying an old, half-broken TV without sound is better than a brand-new HD TV because you have a receiver for the old TV which can receive a few more channels.

@derpyshy Most operating systems, including Windows and Linux, need at least one partition. AFAIK Ubuntu's installer should be able to allow you to "install next to Windows", but I'm not completely sure how that works because I never used that feature.

@derpyshy I used Linux to turn a Pentium III into a usable desktop system. If that is possible with a fair amount of tweaking, you shouldn't give up your system so easily :P At least, in my opinion, I think the device still has a chance, albeit I don't know the specs of it. And hey, can it hurt to try? (Well, formatting can hurt if you do it improperly, but you should always backup your data (and Windows registration keys, if you plan on reinstalling it or accidentally damage it), but besides that it shouldn't be dangerous).

@derpyshy So, you're not going to attempt to save your laptop first? If I would still be running the first copy of Windows on my PC I would've ended up returning it several years ago already. It's now running like a new system for over 4 years.

@derpyshy No, that's completely independent from Windows. Just like Android isn't Windows or Windows-related either. It can be installed next to a PC with Windows, though.

@derpyshy Hmmm, your laptop is really weak? In that case, for you, I would consider Xubuntu (http://xubuntu.org/) or Lubuntu (http://lubuntu.net/), they are both made for low-powered devices (Lubuntu even more than Xubuntu) and should give you a reasonable system. Also, don't worry if you choose the wrong one first, you can easily turn your Xubuntu into a Lubuntu, or the other way around (though getting it right the first time would be easiest).

I don't know a lot of plant types, she gets annoyed because "it's common sense", I ask what common sense even means, she says that it's stuff "everybody knows or does", I say that because I don't know the stuff it therefore can't be common sense then and I get a reply saying "everybody isn't everybody, but a lot of people", I call her out for the fact that that logic means that a dog doesn't have to be a dog then, and therefore can be a cat as well and now I'm apparently angry at her and I think she's stupid, even though I'm not and I don't think so, but she refuses to listen to me. At any rate, I'm somewhat sick of getting the blame for things I don't even say or think...
