  1. @scribus Japan has its own issue in that regard. While they're generally efficient, at least in industry, they tend to follow the toyota philosophy of "do everything in teams" and "get rid of everything that isn't immediately needed". That sounds good in paper, but it makes everything dependant on clockwork logistics. If something breaks there are no spare parts on the warehouse (or decomissioned decives to scavenge from) and if for whatever reason the company that sells the spares isn't working that day you can look forward to the production line halting for a day or more.

  4. @scribus Also: If you have seen a construction site in Germany, especially when streets are involved, then it takes when they get finished. A new airport is build near Berlin and it got famous for taking so long and being horribly constructed such that they have to rebuild it again. Also not long ago a musical theater in Hamburg was finished that had also massive inefficiency problems when it comes to constructing that piece of brick. Germans are as inefficient as everyone else. They just appear to be busy.

  5. @scribus It's just appearance. I work for Volkswagen (not employed at Volkswagen) and they are pretty wasteful with time and money when it comes to their own projects.

  6. @scribus Before Watergate he won re-election in the largest popular vote landslide ever, along with winning 49 of the 50 United States in the electoral college (which would later be done by Reagan in his 1984 re-election bid), so obviously he was doing SOMETHING right before that point.

  12. @scribus Some more figures: James Cameron’s Avatar, the highest-grossing movie of all time, has made about $2.8 million, while Cameron’s Titanic, the second highest-grossing, made $2.2 million. Grand Theft Auto V made more money than the top two highest grossing films of all time combined.

  20. @scribus My character was a changeling (from the Eberron campaign setting) but the DM said my character can come back as a human. Originally the druid's reincarnation spell randomly determines a humanoid race and gender.

  21. @scribus Yeah! Very much so. The DM offered me to revive my character, but it won't be cheap (in game) and I have to switch the race.

  23. @scribus Thankfully, she’s unharmed physically, but the district manager is not taking it very seriously and it’s taking a lot of self-restraint for me to not go in there and torch the whole Papa John’s.

  30. @scribus sometimes instant can surprise. I tried out an MRE recently to see what the flameless heater was like and the coffee they put in it was quite good. Something to look forward to next week.
