For the record, I am only discussing this because magic systems are an important part of fantasy narrative, which is something I care about.

@circuithooves This isn't canon, but in general the difference between magic used by casters(e.g. Unicorns) and magical spirits(Discord) is that casters interact with the magic or call it forth from somewhere, but magical spirits ARE magic. It's part of their very being. They don't cast spells, the magic just happens.
