Been vaccinated for a whole week, this time next week I’ll finally, for the first time in over a year, be able to fantasize about having a social life.

I’d like to think that I’m doing them for him, at least, and not just to feed my ego, which is probably the reality.

I was gonna bind together the thirty-something Swole Foods comics and give it to him and talk to him about what cartooning meant to me and how it helped me through a rough time of my life, but after reading through all of the comics I’ve made so far I’ve realized that I can give him very very few of them. It just wouldn’t be appropriate. So these next few comics are for him, I guess.

There’s a guy with special needs who’s about my age working at my store and he’s having a lot of problems at home, I don’t know the full details but it’s not good, and I’ve been trying to find ways to help him feel more comfortable while he’s at work. The other day I found him reading these old, beat up Calvin & Hobbes comics on his break and I asked if he had anything else, and no, he’s been reading these same Calvin & Hobbes comics every day. And like, it’s not exactly the same thing, but I got bullied in school, and cartoons helped me cope with that, but even more than that, watching Eddsworld and realizing that any random jerk can do it, and therefore I can do it, REALLY helped me cope with that. Maybe it’s slightly narcissistic, but I thought that if the kid realized his boss drew comics and whatnot just like his Calvin & Hobbes book, it’d help him find an outlet for all those negative feelings he’s been having.

The next few swole foods comics are gonna be a little more “family friendly” as a personal challenge to myself to not the make the punchline either sex, politics, or death.

teaching myself how to animate with Clip Studio so that i can at least work on animatics on this thing, that by itself would help a ton

It’s at a state now where it could probably replace a MacBook and I won’t be shocked if they start trying to merge the two lines in the somewhat near future.

If the ported Adobe Animate to the iPad - which they should do since they’re gonna be making the Creative Cloud compatible with Apple Silicon anyway - then the thing would be literally perfect.

cartoon crossovers before animation went fully digital were wild because, as the host show (in this case Lilo & Stitch), the burden was often on your animators to draw all these characters that you're not used to working with, and you couldn't (easily) reuse assets from the visiting show, so you get shots like this where everyone is terribly off-model http://rainbowdash.net/url/875846

actually, "John K. was a talented asshole who revolutionized the modern animation scene and should also jump into traffic" USED to be a perfectly acceptable view to have, everyone always knew he was an asshole, but the second it got out that he raped someone it suddenly became about "cancel culture" or whatever. i despise the mob as much as the next guy but it's really more okay to be a rapist than just a regular asshole to these people? really?

hey YouTube commentators, just so you know, i think it's pretty bullpapaya that i'm not allowed to criticize john k for being a rapist just because i happen to admire his artistic values and what they achieved for the industry. i remember being a kid and understanding that Walt Disney was a visionary who pioneered an entire medium, who also happened to be a very naughty man who hated Jews and produced more than a few movies with very racist imagery. the two were not mutually exclusive back then. not sure what changed.
