@cloudchaser I will eventually :) I still haven't figured everything out but the interesting thing in Equestia is thatapparently emotions take anthromorphical forms which forced the pony races to coexist. My guess would be that conflict not suddenly disappeared and shaped Discord - and so alicorns and Discord came to existance. While fighting against Discord, Luna absorbed a part of his power and opened a window of opportunity to turn himm to stone. When Luna was freed from that influence, the spell binding Discord broke as well - because Equestia always has conflict. The benevolent rulership of Princess Celestia (and basically 1000 years of break) allowed harmony to grow even stronger, which is the reason that Cadence was born.

And if my theory is correct and Discord was who made Luna become Nightmare Moon, then Celestia also knew Discord would awaken again. So she had to choose a Pony which really mastered and understood the power of friendship. So I'd say her virtue is benevolence...
