  1. Fundamental problem of the CMC: Spending too much time identifying as a group => Neglecting identity as individuals => Defeating their purpose in banding together.

    1. @retl As much as I love The Cutie Mark Crusaders, I must confess that is a REALLY good point, I had never looked at it that way before!

      1. @leonkfox Yeah. What I find amusing is that people in real life tend to do the first two things all the time and never really seem to recognize it, so much as just get tired of the group they were with, blaming their displeasure on their groups. It's weird.

        1. @retl I know what you mean, I've found that some people never really develop any profound self-awareness.

          1. @pawnheart Yeah!

            1. @retl Could be argued, of course, that too MUCH self-awareness basically leads to a self-critical implodeathon... anyhoo, I'm probably babbling again!

        2. @retl Do you think that could be the angle they're taking the Cutie Mark Crusaders in? Just a thought.

          1. @leonkfox I think what's likely to happen (But is still unlikely because of the way character motivation works) is that Apple Bloom will get her Cutie Mark first, and then it'll be a trial on the CMC to see if they'll hold together as a team or be torn apart by it. Because of the light-hearted nature, they'll stay friends one way or another. Scootaloo will definitely be the one hit hardest by it. Alternatively, Scootaloo gets hers first (like Dashie got hers?), and then can't decide if she belongs anymore since now she's different.

            1. @retl Well, it'll be interesting to see how they handle it, I think :)

              1. @leonkfox Yepyep, it would be. But I very much doubt it'll happen season two, if at all.

            2. @retl Can see this happening... I mean they've got to get their marks at some point or another.

    2. @retl That's true, but I think that is one of the points an ep like 'The Show Stoppers' was making: they ARE missing the point.

      1. @pawnheart True, but in that case they were actually getting closer to their groups core reason when early on in picking roles, they had all immediately assumed their partners were actually going to do the things they already were good at. And then promptly collectively sabotaged themselves when saying that they'd rather <thing they like but aren't good at at all.> Then even with Twilight's prodding at the end, since they were recognized as being funny as a group, they all assume it must be the right thing to do! (As a group.) Valid point to bring up, though.

        1. @retl Anyhoo, excuse my convo-crashing! I was...interested! How are you getting on? I don't believe we've been introduced...

          1. @pawnheart I'm OK. A bit stressed about some quizzes I'll be leaving for in about an hour and 30 minutes, so I'm about to go have another meal and whatnot soon. I'll deal. Just getting at a point in college where it's painful to keep plugging at this stuff every year.

              1. @pawnheart @pawnheart Essay quiz in Philosophy over Plato's Meno and Descartes's Meditations. Speaking quiz in Japanese basically covers everything we've done at all so far in one big chunk.
