@eaglehooves @rotation @mrdragon And anyone else who's interested, @ceruleanspark and I have drafted preliminary user/mod guidelines, which can be found here http://preview.tinyurl.com/RDNguide01 Any constructive input would be appreciated.

@scribus It's a good idea, chief, but who's going to abide by or police it?
Sunday, 11-Sep-11 16:48:16 UTC from web-
@thelastgherkin I'd like to believe that everyone would abide by it, and the mods would enforce it. Of course, that would probably require it being officially adopted.

@scribus I actually, briefly, considered putting my name in for mod, but then I remembered the times I've done it before and the headaches it gave me and thought better of it.
-
@colfax Yeah, I'd already ended up falling into the lead position at work, it's enough hassle when I get paid for it. Maybe if I had more time/brainpower to spare.

@scribus I ran three seperate channels on the sci-fi channels old irc server, at any given time I had upwards of a thousand idiots to deal with on a daily basis, and it was worse when there was a celebrity chat going on, nevermind the nuke attempts, script-kiddies, spammers, flooders, zoomers, bots, and the countless other vermin that populated the internet.
-
@colfax Brutal. That's about the only term for that. Just, brutal.

@scribus Though, as bad as it was sometimes... sometimes I still miss it, had lots of good friends there that I never hear from any more.

@scribus Overall I like it. One thing needs to be clarified though, what exactly "calls for attention" consists of. Taken loosely, that can be applied to anyone saying "hello" or talking about their day that you don't like. Other than that VI) seems to cover most of the exceptions I can think of. Never really thought if V) as much of an issue. Maybe I'm just not observant enough to catch ponies doing it. Only thing I can think of adding would be that new accounts that spam non-pony stuff will be given little/no warning, while meetups and such are given a bit more (or something to clarify the no tolerance for spam-bots).

@eaglehooves Yeah, it's currently written in broad strokes, and now that I think of it I think I left a parenthetic meta-piece in there... oops. :p
Sunday, 11-Sep-11 17:09:50 UTC from web -
@eaglehooves Anyway, as for what I'd meant by "calls for attention," I had in mind the sort of posts where someone just says "Hey, someone talk to me!" a few times in a row, and won't partake of the active conversation. I was trying to not use the term "attention whoring." I'll work on it.

@scribus That's kind of what I thought, there's just been a few instances where that's been tossed around pretty loosely.

@rotation Good point.

@scribus @eaglehooves @rotation @ceruleanspark I like it, it's a start on something glorious. And once we can all agree on something, we can shoot it off over to Ms.Tinker :)

@scribus @ceruleanspark On the whole, I agree with the proposals here. Just wondering what exactly the limit for the 'PG-13' language/content guideline would be?
Sunday, 11-Sep-11 18:17:13 UTC from web-
@pawnheart @scribus Specifically, no "hard" cursing. Anything that would get you bleeped before 9PM on british TV, basically.
Sunday, 11-Sep-11 18:19:25 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Ahh so... no Fs and Cs. While I very much appreciate the sentiments of this clause... I'm not sure if cursing in and of itself is necessarily a huge problem. IMO (and I emphasise that), it only becomes a substantive problem if it is pointed maliciously at another user, and you have dealt with that elsewhere in the guidelines. I think some people might slip up a lot on this, without intending any harm. While I would be willing to abide by this clause, were it implemented, it seems to me perhaps... like one constraint too many? and a particularly difficult one to enforce...
Sunday, 11-Sep-11 18:28:21 UTC from web-
@pawnheart It actually used to be a hard rule but with very little enforcement, people (myself included) seem to be breaking it increasingly often.
Sunday, 11-Sep-11 18:30:46 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Perhaps you could go by a strike system, with the strikes resetting every week or two? Like, strike one is a warning. Strike two is a silence + warning. Strike 3 is a longer silence + strong warning, and/or ban. Strike 4, if it somehow rolls around, is a ban from both sites. A bit harsh, perhaps. Plenty of room for modification :3

@frostflow We don't want things to get too complex for the mods. We don't really want them to have to do a great deal more than they're doing already. We just want things to be set up, so that if a situation requiring them to take action arises, they can just do it without half a dozen people whining that their little mascot got banned because "the rules aren't cleaaaar"
Sunday, 11-Sep-11 18:36:59 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Mmmm. Carcino drama. All that should be required, in my opinion, is a warning post in the top of the screen, or something to say that hard cursing is not allowed and give the punishments. Then nobody can complain that it's not clear.
-
@frostflow It's simple, he winds his neck in and stops harassing people, we won't be standing for it much anymore.
Sunday, 11-Sep-11 18:40:25 UTC from web -
@frostflow That's what we're basically trying to get here. A set of guidelines that everyone agrees are fair and unambiguous. The mods are people too.

@ceruleanspark Ah. Okay then, keep up the good work :3

@pawnheart Every pony that has a concern or a opinion should be listened to with open eyes and ears, just listening to them all can get a bit hectic :P

@mrdragon Thanks! And thank you for listening anyhoo... I've said my bit!

@pawnheart Yeah. Cabal, the old admin really disliked cursing. Tinker is more relaxed about it, but the policy technically hasn't changed.
