@metal Is that the original HTC Evo? If so, then a Win 7 Phone just because you'll be getting a much newer piece of hardware for your money. If it's one of the new Evo derivatives, then it's pretty much a matter of choice. I wouldn't blow my upgrade on a handset that's over a year old if a newer one is available

@metal Then it's up to you, which is more important to you?, the smooth, clean, reliable windows phone experience, or the rough, but customisable, versatile Android experience.

@ceruleanspark perhaps, but I would prefer any unix alternative to a windows device even if it was older

@elind85 I sort of assumed that because he asked, he wasn't bothered about the OS politics aspect. I was just thinking that he probably doesn't want to be stuck with a going on for 4 year old handset by the time next upgrade season rolls around.

@metal Hackability or integration? Are you the sort of person who wants to be able to make his phone do more or less anything, or are you happy if it does the things that the manufacturer has decided it should do really well.

@ceruleanspark i agree, i have a droid 1. I could upgrade now if I want, but i'm holding out for the new iPhone

@metal Have you actually sat down and used one of each in the store for a little bit? That might be the decider, if one makes you go WOW HOLY BALLS and the other elicits nothing but "meh"

@elind85 I had one of those until earlier this year. Traded it out for an unlocked Palm Pre 2 of all things. Even with the mostly-deceased ecosystem , the better hardware in the pre 2 is a huge improvement of the 500mhz processor and no-ram in the droid,

@metal Outta the two, I'd probably go for a Win Phone 7 device. They're pretty sweet, and Microsoft seems committed to developing the platform. Android is a bit hit-or-miss in the "Will the manufacturer still be supporting my device at the end of my contract period" department.

@metal but then I use a Palm Pre 2, so my taste in cellphones is doleing weird.

@metal So either phone will be a huge improvement over that. Both are nice, as far as smartphones go, you just need to try both and see which feels better for you.

@ceruleanspark my droid runs at 900 mhz and does everything I need to do quite well.

@elind85 You overclocked it? And it WORKS? Mine was unstable as all hell at that speed. I assume there's a custom ROM on there too?

@ceruleanspark well yeah, you have to use a special rom in order for it to work properly. I also have tether working which is useful considering my unlimited data plan

@elind85 I was using an overclockable kernel and a custom rom, but at above about 700 it started to inexplicably reboot all the time. I assumed it was something specific to my hardware, as everyone else was getting on fine. Still, it's nice not to have to think about that sort of thing with the Pre.
