I'm starting to hate my computer, with it's 1gb ram that barely supports google chrome, to my horse manure graphics card that plays everything from 10 years ago on minimum settings.

@miloth Ouch. My laptop struggles with some of my academic software with 4gb ram. 1gb must be painful.
-
@miloth Wow everypony's complain about their computers today
-
@miloth but i have HALF a gig of ram (see now i'm doing it too)
-
@eaglehooves It's 1gb, but my computer recognizes it as 800mb or so.
-
@miloth What version of windows are you using?
-
@rainkyou 512mb>What.
-
@cabal I used to run Windows Vista, till recently I tried out Windows 7.
-
@rainkyou eeyup.
-
@miloth I've got one of those at home. I'm about ready to 'fix' it with a blowtorch.

@miloth yup and i have windows XP

@miloth ... I don't know how you got 7 to run on 1gig. But you need to at least have 4 gigs to have anything run smoothly.
-
@eaglehooves xD
-
@rainkyou What kind of computer are you on?
-
@eaglehooves hmm? what KIND? explain yourself!
-
@cabal I've been thinking about upgrading my computer for a while, but lately I've been strapped on money. It's a miracle I can do anything with 1gig. Of course I do receive a popup every now and then saying The computer is low on memory.
-
@rainkyou cool.
-
@rainkyou Just curious what make/model, if you're willing to share. I work with a decent number of computers, and some brands and lines have reputations. Dells seem to be like tanks, especially the business ones. That desktop I want to 'fix' is 8-9 years old I think, and it just won't die already, and my parents won't let me trash it for as long as it still runs.
-
@cabal Hey, got any old dead hard drives laying around I could get the magnets out of?
-
@eaglehooves Oh, it is a dell and a desktop
-
@colfax I might be able to help with that in a week or so. I've got one that I think is filled with bad sectors I need to test.
-
@miloth go to goodwill or something and just buy a computer there and take the RAM out of it, or just use the computer you bought there, most of them are fairly decent computers
-
@macpony55 >Computers at Good will. Since when did they have computers? But I can't just pull out any old RAM, it has to fit, and be a drr2.
-
@miloth you may get lucky, or you could just take a screwdriver into goodwill and check for yourself, but I've gotten desktops at stores like that for 3 bucks and they still worked fine, I actually pulled the ram out of one and looked at the price and I could sell that 1 RAM of 4 in the computer for the same price I bought it for
-
@macpony55 ah, okay. I'm getting desperate for more ram, and a better graphics card, that the might be my only chance, or Christmas, but i'm not going to wait for that.
-
@miloth It's worth a try
-
@macpony55 yeah, i'll try it later this week if I can.
-
@miloth alright, let me know what you find
-
@macpony55 will do.
-
@colfax nope
-
@cabal *looks at his computer with 2 gigs of RAM* *looks at his Windows 7* *looks at his ability to do pretty much everything perfectly smoothly* wat?
-
@rpb3000 Haha what?? i have 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 and mine runs kiwity. what processor you got?
-
@noizybrony Phenom II x2 3GHz
-
@rpb3000 that explains it. I just have a POS Intel Pentium Dual-Core 2.20Ghz. xP
-
@rpb3000 Might be the better processor. I have AMD E350M1
-
@cabal Prolleh the better processor. I only tend to run into memory issues when trying to run far too many memory-intensive applications at once. Definitely want to at least double my RAM to get more overhead, but for now it's alright.
-
@rpb3000 indeed
