      1. @redtie Oh I have issues getting to sleep all the time. Literally, all the time. I just have so many thoughts running through my head I can't sleep. Over the years my body has adjusted to it, so no real complaints, just means I get longer days than everyone else! Right now I'm using that extra time to have another mare-athon. How 'bout you, what's up? (long message is long.)

                      1. @redtie I got the StarCraft Archive and I'm currently on "Liberty's Crusade". I wasn't expecting much from books based off of a video game, but it is writen quite well. Next I'm either going to finally read "Lord of the Rings", or reread "Ender's Game" again, it's my favourite book.

                        1. @asvendius i read Lord of the rings when i was in highschool, have the ender game's books on my ereader but haven't had a chance to read them. and I had no idea there are starcraft books...i should give that a try.

                          1. @redtie downloading the Starcraft books right now. Also i was a big fan of the older starcraft game.

                          2. @redtie There are actually 14 StarCraft novels, I believe, as well as a number of comics and graphic novels.

                        2. @asvendius I've been meaning to read Ender's Game. It's sitting on my Kobo waiting for me to get to it.

                          1. @tequilasunrise It's an amazing read, though I have yet to read any of the other books in the series, and only recently even realised there were so many. Gonna have to find a place I can pick up "Speaker for the Dead" and get started.

                            1. @asvendius Huh, I wasn't aware of that either. It's unfortunate that Orson Scott Card is a complete nutbar, but I do try to keep my feelings about artists separate from my feelings about their work.

          2. @redtie Nice. I've got a Kobo as well. Actually, I've got The Door Into Summer sitting on my nightstand but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I'm a big fan of Neal Stephenson, as SF goes.

Thursday, 20-Oct-11 14:21:03 UTC from web
            1. @tequilasunrise iam only 20 pages into Door into Summer and iam liking it so far. It was one of those books my parents had. and I'd always see it somewhere in the house. much like the foundation series that my dad had. wish i picked up this book earlier.

Thursday, 20-Oct-11 16:53:50 UTC from web
              1. @redtie Yeah, I'm in an SF/F book club with some former coworkers and we read Foundation. I found it a little bit heavy on the science and light on the fiction for my liking - I prefer more character-driven fiction, generally - but I think it was worth reading. As for Heinlein, I've read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, and was actually thinking of writing a jokey MLP/TMiaHM crossover because of the whole "New Lunar Republic" thing. My mom's a bit of a science fiction buff, too.

        2. @asvendius Man, I hear that. I find concentrating on my breathing helps sometimes. It's really tough to keep your mind clear - takes a lot of practice. And I find often that the harder I try to get to sleep, the more it eludes me.

Thursday, 20-Oct-11 08:23:27 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
            1. @ceruleanspark i have no complaints abotu the touch screen. before its most recent update it had a bad habit of not reading your finger taps, but each update always fixes tons of kiwi and gives me new things to do. At the moment it even has xbox-style achievements.

              1. @redtie How's the refresh time? I traded a sony reader in for my Kindle, and the refresh on the sony reader was sooooooo slow.

Thursday, 20-Oct-11 08:27:02 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                1. @ceruleanspark the refreshing of each page is pretty fast. its alittle slow on start up after its been off since i have it filled to the breaking point with books. Also you can set it so it wont refresh the page until after several page turns.

Thursday, 20-Oct-11 08:28:43 UTC from web
                  1. @redtie Ooh, neat. Yeah, the kindle gets slow to boot if it has a lot of books in its index too. What formats are you mostly reading in? Have you checked out feedbooks.com? Or if you're into Sci-fi, the works of Peter Watts?

Thursday, 20-Oct-11 08:35:31 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                    1. @ceruleanspark i can read pdf and epub. i just use epub though for ease of use. i think i have some watt's work in my huge ebook collection i downloaded.

Just to shake his hand and give him my tanks for the music, and tell him he was the reason i picked up a guitar... Man... I cant describe it! That cannonball dude is delicious by the way!
