Goodnight everypony, and I've decided Spanish should be the universal language.

@derpsissadbecauseprincesstwilightdoesnotwanttomarryhim I don't trust any language where you have to use context to tell whether someone just said yes or if.

@modulusshift Believe me, there are languages with stranger rules.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 03:49:01 UTC from web-
@nerthos Sure, but I don't speak any of them. I've never considered a curiosity in English that rivals that.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 03:50:56 UTC from web-
@modulusshift I can't name one right now. I always considered english a bit confusing because of it's simplicity, and few tenses. In spanish there are like 14 or 17 tenses.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 03:53:47 UTC from web-
@nerthos Simplicity is never a terrible thing. Means we have less language to mess up, I say.

@modulusshift A "flaw" of english copared to spanish is the fact that if you switch the order of two words, you can get a different meaning, in spanish, there's only one way to put words.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 03:59:19 UTC from web-
@nerthos Seems more limiting to Spanish than anything. I imagine you guys make up for it with the insane amount of conjugations, though.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 04:01:38 UTC from web-
@modulusshift Yeah, you usually need more words to say the same thing in spanish, but there's only one (and sometimes one out of context too) interpretation to the phrase, unless you want to give it multiple meanings just for the sake of nopony understanding what you exactly meant, like I always do.

@nerthos One thing I'm really glad of in English is the abundance of puns. I hear it's not as much fun to wordplay in other languages. The only other language I've heard is very punny is Japanese.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 04:05:36 UTC from web-
@modulusshift Because it's so disjointed, with multiple interpretations, and synonyms, English is crawling with potential for wordplay.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 04:07:00 UTC from web-
@thatonepony Yep. English has had a hard life, but it kept it's sense of humor.

@modulusshift That's one of the main reasons I like to watch shows in their original language. It is possible to make puns in spanish, but it requires much more effort.

@modulusshift There is a difference, either go learn Español, or get your ears checked. Or better yet, do both.
-
@derpsissadbecauseprincesstwilightdoesnotwanttomarryhim Well enough. I've never been very good at speaking Spanish, I learned only ever so slightly more than I needed to pass the class.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 03:54:52 UTC from web -
@derpsissadbecauseprincesstwilightdoesnotwanttomarryhim In truth, there's no real difference, that I can say as a native spanish speaker. an example of "IF" would be "Guarda el coche si oscurece" and an example of "YES" "Si, voy al mercado" the pronunciation is exactly the same.

@nerthos Argentina, huh? Do you guys still consider yourselves the land of silver?
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 03:59:37 UTC from web-
@modulusshift No, there's more uranium than silver here. It was named after a river, but the river is actually brown due to the constant traffic of ships.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 04:00:42 UTC from web-
@nerthos It's also really freaking wide. I don't know why I know this, but the Río de la Plata is very, very wide.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 04:02:58 UTC from web-
@thatonepony Yeah, that too. I don't go much there, though, since there's not much worth seeing near the river.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 04:04:45 UTC from web-
@nerthos I think I did a school report on it once. I'm not sure.

@nerthos Time ruins all, it seems. America was no doubt a much more beautiful place a few hundred years ago. A lot more dangerous, I will admit.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 04:03:25 UTC from web-
@modulusshift It never was clean water. In times of the spanish virreinato, the water was left one night in buckets or glasses for the dirt in it to go to the bottom so it could be used for something. Now is the same, but toxic.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 04:06:17 UTC from web-
@nerthos It must have at least been silvery at times, or else the name would be a tad bit misleading. Pretty doesn't mean livable. A very nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 04:08:08 UTC from web-
@modulusshift The silvery thing was the reflection of the sun over it's surface. Yeah, it's a good place to live but only if you were raised here. If there's a thing for wich Argentinos are known, is having a way of thinking to always find a hole or a way to get something more out of everything. In other decades that wasn't bad, since the country is mostly composed of immigrants, like the US, but right now, a foreign trying to settle here would be tricked to the point of him wanting to go home. The actual government is awful.
Tuesday, 06-Dec-11 04:21:05 UTC from web-
@nerthos Doesn't sound too bad. Just gotta stay on your guard. Glad to be living here, anyway.
