  1. Call me ignorant if you will, but what good is shutting down websites for a few days going to do to stop SOPA? This is a legitimate question.

    1. @leonkfox Not a lot, I'd imagine, considering it probably won't pass anyway.

      1. @yodelerty My inner skeptic thinks it's going to pass, I must confess :/

    2. @leonkfox I believe it is an attestment to a) Showing how the bill might affect the community and b) How many in the public are actually against this bill. Politician's do listen to the public, believe it or not.

      1. @lightningcrash I guess that does make sense, a site like Wikipedia is taken for granted and used by millions of people, makes me wonder what would happen if YouTube did it...it could well kill the bill dead in its tracks if they did! Shame they didn't.

    3. @leonkfox Awareness mostly; anyone who hadn't already heard of the bill goign to visit any of the downed sites would know, and be able to contribute (usually be contacting their senator or representative). However, that's limited by the fact that most of the concerned parties would already be aware of the bill

    4. @leonkfox The idea is to raise awareness, and get everypony annoyed enough to take action.
