Alright, I've been meaning to ask this for a little while but never did get around to it. I feel comfortable asking it though, what with this being a site dedicated to a My Little Pony cartoon and all. I was curious...are there any fans of the classic seasons of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends on here? (By Classic I mean 1-4, and 5 to a certain extent) It was always one of my favourite shows, and truth be told I think I may like it that little bit more than I do FiM, even if I am more active in the fanbase for FiM. (I'm strictly talking about these seasons though, anything made after 2004 is Tweenies level trite as far as I'm concerned, and what we got in between 1998 and 2003 wasn't great, but still a lot better than what followed.

@leonkfox I absolutely loved that show when I was a kid! Ringo Starr and George Carlin were the best!
-
@pinhooves The only way I ever got my fix of that growing-up was through the old PBS program "Shining Time Station" - that was actually decent TV for edutainment back then.
-
@leonkfox Sorry, we never had cable and the big networks got poor reception, so I grew up on public broadcasting, which meant not watching TV.
-
@leonkfox loved it, but i havent seen any in about 10 years....
-
@chiefanchor I would watch the VHS tapes we got nonstop. Duck's still my favourite. :3
-
@chiefanchor Being a non US resident I never watched or even heard of Shining Time Station as a kid, never been able to get into it either. But then, my first introduction to it being "Thomas and the Magic Railroad" (awful film) didn't help my perception of it all that much.

@pinhooves I don't think Michael Angelis gets enough credit, he's narrated the show here in the UK for 21 years now, he may not be at his peak anymore but from Seasons 3 to 7 he was great. (Even if the material wasn't great in a fair bit of Season 5, as well as almost all of 6 and 7 he still did a great job with it)
-
@leonkfox I remember Alec Baldwin was a narrator. He wasn't that great. :l
-
@pinhooves Pretty much everyone agrees he was the worst narrator ever, as far as I can tell.
-
@purplephish20 Aw, shame. I was out of it for about 6-8 years but in 2006 I caught it randomly while channel surfing, got back into it in full swing again like I'd never left to begin with.
-
@greatandpowerfuleaglehooves Sorry to hear that.
-
@pinhooves I always loved that his full name was Montague =D
-
@tenmihara He prefered being called Duck though =P Seems odd, you'd think he'd get teased more for having the name "Duck".
-
@leonkfox I don't remember watching it all that much, to be honest.
-
@leonkfox Wasn't so bad. Probably did me some good, actually.
-
@greatandpowerfuleaglehooves Fair enough.
-
@scribble Speak of the bloody devil!
-
@purplephish20 Huh wuh?
-
@scribble that you should turn up the second I mention this mornings..... "problem"
-
@pinhooves George Carlin and Ringo Star were vastly superior to Baldwin as narrators
-
@tenmihara True statement is completely true.
-
@purplephish20 Ah
-
@tenmihara Even Michael Brandon (I think that's his name, the current US narrator) is better than Baldwin was. Pierce Brosnan's one off narration was good, even if I didn't care much for the material he was working with, being a modern age Thomas film, made by HiT Entertainment. (Eugh...)
-
@leonkfox @chiefanchor Wasn't expecting to meet so many Thomas fans XD
-
@tenmihara What can I say? I grew up on the PBS version :D
-
@chiefanchor Ah, the good stuff ^^ I still have some VHS copies lying around somwhere
-
@leonkfox i remember watching it lots X3
-
@tenmihara Well, it was the idea when I started the conversation, glad to see it worked though. ^^
-
@cavatina Nice ^^
