Ask an enlightened being anything:
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:36:13 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Enlightened means radioactive? I don't find any ther way you could actually emanate light from your body.
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:37:19 UTC from web-
@nerthos I emanate light from my soul.
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:39:55 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark What happens if your soul is eaten by an eldritch being? Does he start emanating light too?
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:40:41 UTC from web-
@nerthos Depends how thick his stomach lining is really.
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:41:56 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Do they have stomachs?
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:42:11 UTC from web-
@nerthos Depends on the eldritch being.
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:46:11 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark You know, right now I picture you as a Glowing One ghoul from Fallout 3, with blond hair, glasses, and a Dave Strider shirt.

@ceruleanspark How long until !saveDerpy gets noticed (and changed) by Hasbro?
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:37:37 UTC from web-
@sebastian1314 Ask me something not stupid.
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:38:14 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Does this count?
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:38:41 UTC from web-
@greatandpowerfuleaglehooves Yes, because it doesn't have anything to do with that goddamned horse.

@ceruleanspark Ok, here's a question: why do you think it's stupid?
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:40:08 UTC from web-
@sebastian1314 You are in fact, the first pony who has asked me that question. I think it's stupid because it implies that Hasbro /owes/ the community something. This communities reaction to this whole affair has basically ensured that Hasbro will never try to do anything for us again. Not to mention the fact that the community has decided to direct its outrage by harassing all the people who have made an effort to reach out to us in the first place. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:45:16 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Well, hold on, there are two entities at play here that we know of. Studio B and Hasbro. We should treat the former with utmost respect, love, and tolerance, as they too are annoyed and saddened at the whole thing. The latter on the other hoof... Well, they're the ones that decided to change it. Yeah, I guess that they were the ones who decided to put it in the first place, but still. Also, I don't think they act like five year-olds in the sense that they get resentful and hurt. Sure, they do if we send hate mail, spam, etc., but many people including Seshisthshso (can't spell his name right at all), MandoPony, and the guys over at savederpy.com have all said that hate and ignorance is NOT the way to go.
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:50:32 UTC from web-
@sebastian1314 I don't get what you're trying to say here. Because a few people said not to do a thing, I should discount the masses who are doing it? Hasbro aren't allowed to do as they please with their own property? That they somehow need the communities "permission" first?
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:04:11 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Hmm? What I was saying is that we should tolerate both Studio B and Hasbro, but only send messages to Hasbro, as they are the ones doing this. And no, as you can clearly see, they need nopony's permission first. However, if they want to PLEASE the community, then they listen to us, and change it. Simple as that.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:17:17 UTC from web-
@sebastian1314 I think what I'm failing to comprehend is why Hasbro should have any interest in pleasing the community at all. We are at best, ancilliary. Way outside the target market and nowhere near as profitable. Bronies could vanish overnight and only appear as a tiny blip on their sales figures.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:22:30 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark i dont know... The amount bronies BUY is a serious asset to them. YOU are tatramount to that fact
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:24:00 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 Hardly. The vast majority of bronies have no toys and don't pay for the episodes. The fact that I myself have bought "First ponies" for so many people (you included!) is evidence of that.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:27:58 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark I keep trying to buy grapesing blindbags but there are none wherever i go...
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:29:58 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 @ceruleanspark I'm not so sure we're that small an asset to Hasbro, but I also think that as long as Hasbro doesn't entirely change the show, most of us will stick around. I think Derpy is of little consequence to many of us, and even her fans would probably remain fans even if she never gets named again.

@purplephish20 Also the correct spelling is "tantamount" and the word means "Equivelant to"
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:29:10 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark And I WILL be buying the episodes the day they become available
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:30:35 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 Ditto. I tried buying them already. CANADA. NOPE.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:30:54 UTC from web -
@purplephish20 That was the other thing I was gonna say. There are a lot of bronies in countries where no merchandise exists for them to buy, so they functionally don't exist from Hasbro's POV.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:31:45 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark that's true too, except that they can buy from the online Hasbro toy shop and iTunes.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:33:07 UTC from web-
@pony iTunes is region locked, as is the toy-store's shipping.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:33:32 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark ah. I wasn't aware of that.. so one would have to use a proxy or 3rd person buyer then..
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:34:51 UTC from web-
@pony they just don't accept non-american payment methods.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:35:23 UTC from web-

@ceruleanspark and then they'd truly remain invisible as buyers
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:35:16 UTC from web-
@pony iTunes even checks the region on paypal accounts to keep unapproved nations locked out. That's something I've never seen anyone do before.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:36:16 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Man, I feel bad for the other nations.. although maybe they don't care since they probably aren't exposed to MLP
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:37:28 UTC from web-
@pony It aired on british TV. You just can't buy it to keep for some raisin. On the other hand, we can get Hearstrings and Big Mac blindbags readily, and you guys can't.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:38:34 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark *sigh* I'll never understand why
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:40:20 UTC from web-

@ceruleanspark good point.... but neither do the "little girls" in those countries. THEY dont exist either
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:34:14 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 Yeah, but little girls already outnumber bronies by a fairly significant amount in the countries that do count.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:34:57 UTC from web -
@purplephish20 @ceruleanspark I'm honestly interested to know how the sales numbers compare between bronies and girls.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:36:20 UTC from web-
@pony I don't think they're that interesting. Looking at it from a purely pragmatic point of view, there are probably less than 1 million bronies. There are certainly more than 1 million little girls.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:37:42 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark but far fewer little girl buys MLP merchandise (or has it bought for her) than bronies I'd estimate
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:39:34 UTC from web-
@pony 1 brony buys 10 brushies. 10 little girls buy one brushie each. It's equal. Multiply that by the orders of magnitude difference in the size of the two groups, and the little girls outstrip bronies trivially.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:42:19 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Right. It seems that even if bronies bring in 1/3 of the profits, that's still a very substantial chunk, and one that Hasbro might not want to sacrifice unless they think they can get more girls to buy it to replace us. That's why I'd be interested to know the numbers. How expendable are we really? And doesn't Hasbro have many other products that they might like to invest in that could be more lucrative than MLP?
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:46:40 UTC from web-
@pony That's kind of the other thing. Hasbro in no-way needs MLP to survive. They've got the transformers and the STAR WARS toy licenses. Also all the marvel comics stuff and Nerf. Someone could balefire MLP right out of the pattern and hasbro would be almost totally unscathed.

@ceruleanspark >implying a brony buys more toys than a little girl
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:49:06 UTC from StatusNet Android-
@redenchilada I was generously overestimating. The average brony buys less than 1 toys because they are so socially awkward they are convinced the cashier is going to invite everyone in the store over to laugh at them via the store PA.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:51:10 UTC from web-

@ceruleanspark I think the amount of bronies that watch the show is actually relatively close to the amount of little girls regularly and the percentage that buys merchandise in each is probably much higher in the brony community, even if not then dent we would make in Hasbro's sales if we disappeared would make a considerable difference in their finances
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:49:16 UTC from web-
@macpony55 @redenchilada @ceruleanspark *lol at socially awkward bronies. Yeah, even if we do provide a substantial part of the MLP franchise's profit, Hasbro is "big business" and, while they're not stupid and probably won't try to alienate bronies, they're pretty much immune to our potential outrage. I think I agree that it's best as a brony to just enjoy my pretty ponies and not really expect anything else from Hasbro.. I'm already just grateful the animators consider us important enough to humor with fanservice in the first place.

@ceruleanspark Blip? More like crater. You underestimate us.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:41:32 UTC from web-
@sebastian1314 You overestimate, and lead me nicely into my next question: What is up with this obsession with "being relevant". So far, this struggle to "be relevant" has only caused disharmony, and arguably now caused damage to the show itself. Can't you just like your pretty horses for what they are? Why do they have to ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR DEEP LOVE? What do you think will magically happen at that time?
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:47:26 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Ohhh wait wait wait. Hold on. So now YOU are asking ME questions. Wouldn't that mean that now I'M the enlightened one? And to answer your questions: A) I have no idea what you are talking about when you say "be relevant." B) eing relevant, and making formatting jokes are fun! C) Are you saying that basically Hasbro gives a grapes, and so why do I voice my opinion? Becuase they may not care about an individual, but they DO care about a group. ESPECIALLY if it's the group that's making them famous and popular, and getting them the MOOLAH. (BIG thing here, that's all that Hasbro REALLY cares about). Imagine if we were for real, and actually decided to boycott MLP and Hasbro. ALL OF US. ALL BRONIES. Guess what would happen? Change, for sure. Plus, look at how many of us are tech-savvy. I, for instance, know (almost) fluently six programming languages. Who's to say what harm we could inflict on Hasbro if we REALLY wanted to? Some of us, after all, came from /b/ and- gah no spa-
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 00:55:53 UTC from web-
@sebastian1314 I think there are two issues here: 1) You seem kind of angry. You should probably calm down a little. 2) This is what I am talking about. What makes bronies so desperate for power and recognition, and why is the arena of "Brightly colored friendship horses" the one they''ve chosen? That is what I mean by relevance. "Hasbro has to listen to us because WE'RE IMPORTANT". Why does it MATTER if they listen to you? If you recall, FiM was actually really good BEFORE bronies existed. They "got it right" without "brony approval" before, so why is it so important now?

@ceruleanspark Why are protons considered positively charged and electrons considered negative? In fact, why are they called protons and electrons?
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:40:30 UTC from StatusNet Android-
@redenchilada Why would you ask an enlightened being questions about physics? If you met a mathematician, would you have them write poetry?
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:41:42 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Yes. Everyone should leave their comfort zone once in a while.

@ceruleanspark Answer my question.
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:44:42 UTC from StatusNet Android-
@redenchilada Comfort zone has nothing to do with it. I don't know anything about physics!
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:45:59 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark But you're an enlightened being! Can't you at least LEARN physics?
Saturday, 25-Feb-12 23:47:15 UTC from StatusNet Android-
@redenchilada Ok, I'll try to answer. The reason they are different is because of their internal makeup and structure. A proton has 2 up quarks and a down quark, whereas an electron is an elementary particle (no substructures). Now why they are charged, THAT'S the question... Nopony knows right now (But yeah, I love physics, and I want to get a PhD in Quantum!)

@sebastian1314 @ceruleanspark I feel as though the content will probably remain content with what they have, and the discontent will almost always want something different, Derpy or no Derpy..
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 01:35:25 UTC from web-
@pony Actually, I was fine with Derpy. Never had an issue with her voice. I just want her back, and I think really that's what we all want. They should have just left the episode untouched, and not done it again if they are really that pressured by a group of 60 trolls.

@sebastian1314 Ignoring the first part, because my "Status as a brony" has been a bone of contention for both me and others around here before. If you'd like to get into that with me separately, I'd be pleased to oblige, but multi-topic dashes get confusing really fast. To your second part, re-editing the episode obviously cost hasbro money (both to do it, and lost itunes sales whilst it was unavailable), so it wasn't an edit they took lightly. The fact that they did it, to me, suggests that they were concerned about a potential outcome that, in fact would have cost them far more money than any potential backlash. I see you keep saying "A minority of trolls" forced hasbro's hand, but in the end, a lawyer is probably the person who made the call, based on whether they felt the complaints had merit, not how many of them they were, or who made them.
Sunday, 26-Feb-12 01:48:35 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark I also find it very unlikely that bronies were the main force behind the changes.
