Note to self: If something is broken in !Linux, it's always PulseAudio's fault.

Use ALSA == problems go bye-bye.

@mvdan not always

I've used ALSA in #debian unstable for a year and a half - not a single issue :)

@mvdan I use ALSA. I don't understand anymore why I ever used PulseAudio. It's just that I forgot to remove ~/.pulse and after removing that EVERYTHING started to work all of a sudden. It fixed at least 5 issues I thought were completely unrelated.

@omni OSS4 > ALSA in my opinion. Unless you have to have suspend support that's not quirky...

Which distro? No problems with PA since long, using Debian testing/unstable.

@bernat Arch Linux. First hickup I've had with it, Debian and Ubuntu have always given a lot of issues to me. Guess there is no perfect distro, just one being better than another for a certain user. But well, removing ~/.pulse after uninstalling PulseAudio fixed everything. Sound in SDL applications was restored and Firefox and Thunderbird stopped freezing all the time.
