@comradeconventrix @comradenerthos The wikipedia article seems to indicate there's plenty of ambiguity about the definition of Democratic Socialism. It looks like only time can tell whether Obama's socialist leanings prove helpful or otherwise.

"We think http://redenchilada.tumblr.com is written by a woman (63%)." WELL SCREW YOU, GENDERANALYZER.
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@redenchilada Bahaha, even the internet is against you
-
@redenchilada A woman's hacking into your account! *Insert women are technologically iliterate joke here*
-
@yeepzor Is it because I have a fairly well-defined vocabulary that isn't 90% loaded with swears?
-
@conventrix Silly marine, women use laptops so they can hide their cosmopolitan movies and books!
-
@conventrix I beg to differ! http://gorumors.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Hp-Vivienne.jpg Here! There's where they write all their silly fics!
-

-
@comradeconventrix Yes!
-
@comradeconventrix Meh, I don't care about USA, but being red is fun.
-
@comradeconventrix As I said, for me countries mean nothing.
-
@comradeconventrix Your avatar is hilarious xD
-
@comradeconventrix I always found funny how most USA people are nationalists, but they think nazis were demons.
-
@comradeconventrix Bah, I'm an extremist and I'm no demon. It's all about POV.
-
@comradeconventrix Some are able to be extremists and yet make good decisions. Mostly don't, but that's how humanity is. It's better than modern democracy, though.
-
@comradeconventrix No, the thing with modern democracy is that everyone is entitled to vote just for being born, disregarding the educational requirements to do so. Democracy was succesful when first instituted in ancient Greece, since only an elite of intellectuals who dedicated themselves to know what they were doing voted; and since their success was tied to the success of the lower castes, they chose the best candidates for the community. If you just say "Everybody is equal and entitled to decide" you end up giving the decision to idiots easily buyable and foolable, since they're bulk.
-
@comradenerthos clearly pie is the answer to everythign
-
@gpupraxis Yup, and Soarin' can further illustrate the point.
-
@comradeconventrix Exactly, by reverting to ancient democracy and only giving the right to vote to an able few, everything would be solved.
-
@comradenerthos I am an extremist in that I think as soon as the technology to transform people into living plushies is available we should force it on everyone. I believe this would solve every problem in the world.
-
@toksyuryel Don't worry, society and laws are soft enough right now not to need plushies.
-
@comradeconventrix yes that's long been a problem. :p
-
@comradeconventrix Hey, as far as I can see only two are talking about specific places xD
-
@comradeconventrix It's all about who's more able to fool the populace right now. And you don't really need much money for that. The only way to avoid it is by placing instructed people to decide.
-
@pony I know nothing about Obama xD
-
@comradeconventrix The electoral college is composed of politics. Hence it's useless.
-
@comradeconventrix nope not that bad. :) I was initially confused by the references to Russia. I hope
-
@pony I'll hope for the best and prepare for the worst. :)
-
@comradeconventrix that's cool. I get the gist. I'm interested in anything you're eager to share about it. What sort of changes do you hope to see in the US? (assuming you're from the US)
-
@pony Obama has no leanings of any kind. He's as middle of the road you can get, wholly dedicated to mediocrity. (This post is intended as a statement of fact, not a political preference or value judgement)
-
@comradenerthos Yeah. The only things I really follow in US politics (on a superficial level) are moral issues and human rights issues like pro-life vs pro-choice, gay marriage, etc.
-
@toksyuryel gotcha. He does seem very centrist by today's standards, but a lot of Utahns (mostly conservative Republicans) where I'm living don't like what he's doing and make him out to be rather extreme.
-
@thatonepony It would be a political opinion if I went on to suggest that it meant something- on the contrary, for all his failings I happen to think Obama is the best chance we've got right now. But that would be a political opinion, so that's why I didn't say it.
-
@pony When one holds an extreme position on either side, the centrist position looks extreme by comparison. And to be fair, dead-center centrism IS kind of an extreme position. But this gets into weird territory of just how one even defines a position, especially since normal people have views that don't line up nicely with any sort of position. One could say that having the same position on every issue is "extreme" when describing it this way, since no normal person is like that.
-
@comradeconventrix Ah right the Occupy movement. That makes sense. Am I correct in assuming that the Occupy movement would increase taxes for the wealthy? I mean how do the movement's followers believe equality ought to be established?
-
@toksyuryel exactly. And sometimes even non-extremists can tend to blow things out of proportion when just one or two things they feel passionately about are being challenged.
