      1. @flamingpandaomg Yeah, you keep that fantasy with Fluttershy and I'll be over here partying with Pinkie Pie in the meantime.

        1. @clayinthecarpet It all depends on your perspective.

          1. @flamingpandaomg Fluttershy. Is. A. Crappy. Character. So. Far. There is little to redeem her.

              1. @flamingpandaomg That's the only response anyone has when I present this idea. It just reinforces my feelings.

                1. @clayinthecarpet Because I honestly don't agree with your opinion but people will stick with what they think and I'm not up for debating with someone when I barely have time to myself nowadays.

                  1. @flamingpandaomg I definitely don't mean to offend you...I'm just looking for someone to present an idea of Fluttershy that rivals my own...and nobody EVER can, so far. She's manipulative and conceals huge anger bursts, which she ends up bestowing upon her closest friends and people who matter to her. She needs to grow the hell up and no rely on her cuteness to get her what she wants, as she has been doing since forever.

                    1. @clayinthecarpet Okay, I'm going to make this as short as I can. Literally every pony in the Mane 6 has shown bursts of anger at one point or another. That's nothing new. Twilight's flipped her kiwi, Pinkie's flipped out over breaking a promise and even has a split murdocking personality, Rarity flips out if people touch a dress incorrectly, Applejack gets mad... quite often, just not in an explosive manner, RD's gotten mad I just don't remember when off the top of my head... Everyone in the Mane 6 has lied or tried to be sneaky behind the other's backs, whether it was to prevent someone from getting upset or otherwise, and just because she's shy and cute doesn't mean that she relies on it and that she doesn't have positive characteristics. They just get outshone over everyone flipping their grapes over the 'stereotypical shy quiet girl' and refuse to see anything but that. /endrant

                      1. @flamingpandaomg I disagree with your statements, completely. To my memory, Fluttershy has been the ONLY member of the mane 6 to take out her anger without any actual basis to do so. She was being mean just to be mean and blow off steam. That is, except for the Discord Arc. That's excusable. Everypony else of the mane 6 did what they did out of a more respectful quality, overall. Fluttershy quite literally wanted to punish everypony who didn't sit right with her, for any reason, after she had her assertiveness seminar. At least everypony else had a legit reason, such as Pinkie Pie, to be upset. Applejack broke a promise, almost. That's crazy and unacceptable. Rarity doesn't want people to mess up her work, though she tries to remain reserved about herself. Rainbow Dash always gives in to demands due to loyalty and guilt. Fluttershy didn't do any of that. She LEGIT ENJOYED her outlashes, then promised to never do them again by the end of that particular show.

                        1. @clayinthecarpet The whole point of that episode was that she took it too far.

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:20:32 UTC from web
                          1. @coffeecream Exactly! Because she wanted to. That's who she is underneath her kindness exterior: A judgmental pony. Knowing how to be kind doesn't exempt you from having ideas/thoughts about other folks. You just bury them pretty deep and try never to express them. Those feelings were, from a psychological standpoint, how she really reacts to stimuli around her and has taught herself to avoid or bury without saying things. (granted I'm taking this to a pretty big extreme and I realize that)

                            1. @clayinthecarpet She was so eager to not be a doormat that she let herself get into the Iron Will mentality. If that's who she was, She would act that way

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:25:10 UTC from web
                              1. @rarity I've known people personally who fly in the face of that outlook and make me feel differently. Especially in conjunction with other episodes and the way she reacts to things.

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:26:33 UTC from web
                            2. @clayinthecarpet Everyone judges. I do. A lot. Do I act on my judgments? Not when I can help it. Let's say I don't like Ross. If he and I conflicted on something, would I kick him out of my way? No. If that's how Fluttershy thinks, it wouldn't be something acted on, yes - but it shouldn't be something to act out to an extreme either.

Put bluntly, Iron Will didn't teach Fluttershy to be assertive, he taught her to be a bully. For someone like me, who rarely likes to get mad and (let's be honest) can get emotionally sensitive at times, the two can easily get confused.

                              4. @coffeecream I'm just glad that Vinyl is just background character and doesn't gain much criticism because her personality is fan based and not cannon

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:42:42 UTC from web
                              5. @coffeecream So by your summation of Fluttershy, she's completely harmless by nature but was led down the wrong road - a road she wouldn't have normally considered - by Iron Will. So that wasn't who she was as a pony, but merely the manifestation of Iron Will's teachings at their finest?

                                  2. @rarity Yes, it actually is. For reals. Still, I should just mention that you are the first person to ever rival my outlook of Fluttershy with such potency and I enjoy that. You've made me change my mind permanently.

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:47:18 UTC from web
                                2. @clayinthecarpet Possibly. Because she wanted so badly to not be treated by characters like Angel the way she was being treated, she might have let herself become somewhat impressionable and so acted out what she thought Iron Will would have done, not what she (shy or assertive) would have done.

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:45:45 UTC from web
                                  1. @coffeecream I always considered that, too. Maybe her acting out against somepony or some(thing) subconsciously. Still, that's awful, overall, and tainted her character for me in the context of the show.

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:48:27 UTC from web
                                    1. @clayinthecarpet I can honestly tell Fluttershy is just very anxious and somewhat judgmental without power. Sometimes it's just condescending you'll see her being the weakest link. But others will say she could have done something about it, why should I pity? So pretty much she can't do anything because realistically, it's applicable in the real world where everyone is too different to see. Sometimes even claim better judgement than others.

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:53:39 UTC from web
                                    2. @clayinthecarpet I can respect that. I at least think Fluttershy is trying to reach that middle ground, or might do in future episodes, but who knows? But above everything, they're only as perfect as you or me!

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:55:51 UTC from web
                                      1. @coffeecream It'd help if her character development wasn't cherriesed sideways at one point.

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:58:25 UTC from web
                                      2. @coffeecream Absolutely. I don't disagree, I just have my favorites based on what I see so far of each character, overall.

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 07:58:53 UTC from web
                                        1. @clayinthecarpet That's fine. Personally I feel like I relate to Fluttershy a lot (and Twilight), and sourced a few of my thoughts up there from my own experiences. Twi and Vinyl are my favorites, though.

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 08:02:00 UTC from web
                                          1. @coffeecream Honestly, I relate to Fluttershy a lot, too, which is why I put such negative thoughts upon her. :P I dated somebody once who was exactly like Fluttershy in every conceivable way (besides being a horse), so it's made me rather negative towards her as a character after all her episodes so far.

Sunday, 17-Nov-13 08:04:09 UTC from web
                        2. @clayinthecarpet This is why I don't bother with debating. Considering that now I only have the weekends to enjoy myself now, I don't care to sit here and debate for hours on end with someone over my own opinions that affect no one else. You may not like Fluttershy and that's fine, but don't try to convince me otherwise why she's the worst out of the bunch because it's 1) not going to work. 2) I'm going to like her regardless so there's absolutely no reason to bother. 3) I can have my own opinion on what I value characteristically in a person / pony so I don't see what the big deal is here. Let me like what I'm going to like.
