@redenchilada In response to all those points, those were lessons she had to learn to better herself...and then she never did it again (in canon). ALL the characters had similar hurtles before they became better, rounder characters in the show and learn their own lessons so I think you're being unfair to her as a character.

@clayinthecarpet Those instances were never addressed in the show. Maybe the second one indirectly, but definitely not either of the other two. I didn't name a lot of other things because they were addressed in a way to develop her character, but those points I mentioned were basically ignored (and the third happened a full season after the episode where she supposedly learned to appreciate her sister more, indicating character regression.)

@snowcone She's not selfish at all. You must be thinking of when she was affected by Discord or something. She's the most generous character on the show, as you said, embodying the element of Generosity.

@snowcone All the mane 6 have faults, is my point. Fluttershy bottles up anger and has a lot of social issues. Twilight is OCD as hell and probably has some form of anxiety, and Pinkie Pie is practically schizo. I'm just saying, explaining Rarity's faults to me doesn't make me understand how she's less of an interesting character (at this point in time, based on all the character growth) than anypony else in the mane 6.

To put it bluntly, we just never figured it out. I just liked the feeling of them living with their Granny, but keeping the family dynamic tight and small. To be honest, I would like to simply say that they passed away somehow, but it's just it would have likely been deemed too sad for a kids' show and I don't think it would have ever been approved. There was brief discussion of them being traveling salesponies or explorers, but since we never needed the information in an episode, nothing was ever made official. @clayinthecarpet A: I did want AJ's parents to have passed away, but I never defined it (when I was running it) because I didn't think they would allow it. I was holding out to see if those restrictions would change. I had hoped to make RD's mom G1 Firefly. I never did sketch any of the parents, and only had vague ideas of who they were or what they did. For details like that I would usually wait until a story warranted a definition, then define it according to the needs of the story. Rarity's parents, for example, where never planned until we needed then for the episode. Neither were Pinkie Pie's
