Although venison is wonderful, absolutely, once you learn that it responds to low heat, herbs and cutting off most of the gristle before cooking it.

@awlderpy It's pretty good. A lot of wild birds are delicious if cooked right... and once you get the buckshot out of them, if you hunted them yourself.

@silverwing Duck and goose is probably the only wildbird I've had, didn't hunt duck myself though. Duck is delicious. Goose... I might have to learn to better prepare it. Came out dry, more so than I imagined it to be, whenever I've cooked it.

@awlderpy Hm. I don't normally get to have anything other than chicken, so anything is a delicacy to me. Last time I went hunting was summer 2012.

@awlderpy Yeah, it really is. I swear, If I lived somewhere I could hunt, I would get a really nice bow and hunt as much as possible.

@silverwing Man hunting is a deal expensive here. Never bow-hunted before; my manager does though and he says guns don't compare at all. Well yeah, more sanitary for one.

@awlderpy I could always move in with my family in the Dakota's... but they mostly use shotguns. But yeah, Bow hunting is extremely fun. It also leaves you less sore than having a shotgun bang into your shoulder for six hours. It still takes a lot, though.

@silverwing Patience above all else, which I have especially when it comes to hunting. Shotguns never have been a preferred method for me, tried to hunt goose with a rifle first even. That was... well pretty dumb.

@awlderpy Heh. Yeah. The main thing about using a bow is patience. Even more patience than the patience you originally have to have while hunting. Because if you rush you miss. No matter what.

@awlderpy I haven't been camping in so long. The closest I got to was sleeping in a small cabin last winter and skiing for hours.

@silverwing Went out a couple months ago outside Banning State park in central Minnesota, before it started getting cold. Just for a few days, but always a lifting time for me.

@awlderpy Sounds awesome. I may be going out the week after Christmas, but I'm not sure if we'll be able to hunt or not. Probably not, depending on where we're going. If it's in the state, probably not.

@silverwing Part of me wants to go out whilst winter's still in full gear but the "smarter" part of me wants to wait, gather vacation days and go out for a week or more like in the spring. Further up north, like the boundary waters.

@awlderpy I would be pretty happy if we got to go up to Canada. But the probability of that is really low. Washington State is probably the closest we'd get in a week.

@silverwing There's some awesome forest up that way, yes? I always imagined Washington State as huge sprawling forests and Mount St Helens.

@silverwing I love large forests. Times I've spent in them are some of the better memories I have, outside of nights most of the time though. Once you get used to it though after a few nights it's no problem but they are so noisy!
