@awl not to mention the near-death march we were forced to take on occasion from base to the closest train station (about 17km one way).

@awl @vt3c This one guy, I think he was one of my mom's early boyfriends, was a drill sergeant. There was this recruit who was all "I can't do many pushups" so the guy grabbed a bayonet, stuk it in the ground, and put the recruit to do pushups on top of it. If his arms failed him, he'd be impaled. The recruit did all the pushups with haste.

@nerthos oh yes and military jail is somewhere you never want to be. This is definitely universal.
