"unfortunatelly there were those people who died in the building of the stadium for the opening of the world cup, but i'm SURE they will be honored in the opening of the games!"
OOOh, i'm sure that will make up for everythingMonday, 28-Apr-14 10:20:55 UTC from web-
@mushi I don't think a construction worker would be so horrified at the prospect of his own death in an accident, since they know it can happen. It's part of the job, the same way you know as a chemist a glass container could accidentally break and spew acid over your arm.

@nerthos it becomes less probable for the worker to die when they make safety inspections in the work site

@mushi As someone close to industry I can tell you, workers (except the dumber ones but that's a constant in every job) know when inspections are being done and when they aren't. They are notfied when an inspection is going to be done and are aware of the results of the inspection.

@nerthos (And are often criticized and sometimes blamed if the results are bad)

@nerthos well, yet, they shouldnt be allowed to work there if there is no safety. but they already stole too much to build the stadium, if they had to pay even for that people would start to think they were wasting money

@mushi Dude, I'm in no way saying the whole thing isn't a big, steaming pile of corruption, but you can't honestly blame a construction accident on the world cup.
Monday, 28-Apr-14 11:00:44 UTC from web-
@nerthos i'm not blaming the world cup, i'm just saying that a reporter saying they're going to be honored because of that wont change a thing
Monday, 28-Apr-14 11:07:33 UTC from web-
@mushi That's how things work. An official act honouring them will shut up most complaints.

@nerthos i don't think anyone would be particularly keen on the prospect of meeting an early end due to work. Not even guys in the military want that. I doubt any industrial worker would be against making an accident free worker place regardless of if accidents would drive them away from the needed pay o not.

@chaikagaz I'm not saying they're out to willingly get killed, but neither they'll absolutely refuse to touch anything because there's a minimal risk of an accident. kiwi happens, sometimes it's easier to avoid, sometimes it isn't, but a majority of workers keep ignoring safety regulations regardless of risk, so you can't expect them to drop work, even more so in a massive project, because there are no inspections. With a political incentive and syndicate delegates spearheading it sure there'd be a huge commotion and a general strike, but no syndicate will do it in a context like that, and the workers that are conscious enough to be aware of everything are a minority.

@nerthos okay, I can agree with that sentiment. That doesn't mean that we should excuse the accidents though. It's one thing to acknowledge the possibility of an accident it's another to excuse it.

@chaikagaz Who excused it. "I'm in no way saying the whole thing isn't a big, steaming pile of corruption" http://rainbowdash.net/notice/3400607
