    1. @metaltao This place doesn't need to be anything like Reddit. To follow a conversation just hover over the "In context" text and it shows you the previous message in the conversation

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 06:59:26 UTC from web
      1. @scoot unless the previous message isn't on the same page as the first message Kappa

        1. @thewaifutyphoon Thats when you click "In Context" and follow the conversation from there. 2ez

        2. @thewaifutyphoon I wanna get around to fixing that at some point

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:01:26 UTC from web
          1. @redenchilada that could be fixed? that'd be awesome! Sounds kind of tricky.

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:06:39 UTC from web
            1. @pony It's not really that hard. It'd just use an AJAX GET if the notice isn't on the page already.

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:08:19 UTC from web
              1. @redenchilada I was thinking it would increase loading time, hopefully not by too much.

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:10:52 UTC from web
                1. @pony Well, it wouldn't load it until you moused over (in context), and I'd probably add a timeout for like "it won't try to load it until the mouse has been over it for .3 seconds" or something to avoid unnecessary requests. It wouldn't possibly be an instant display but it'd definitely help site usability.

                  1. @redenchilada Yeah. I guess that's not too tricky after all then. Sounds good to me.

      2. @scoot But we already have all of the le ebin maymays that Reddit stole from the 4chins!

        1. @redenchilada Your post made me want to die

        2. @redenchilada I told you not to call me that around the others, TIm. You dick.

      3. @scoot I found to love reddit simply for it's comment system for it complements my simple brain...

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:00:41 UTC from web
        1. @metaltao and it's "Unpopular opinions get hidden from view" system too?

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:01:40 UTC from web
          1. @scoot That is not the systems fault but the people who use it, I try to up vote good arguments. But yeah the system DOES suggest that is what it's use is for but that is wjhy there are filters whih I found out from others who commonly use it and often...

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:03:53 UTC from web
            1. @metaltao Actually wrong. If you have a "downvote" system built into your comments, then you intend for people to use it.

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:04:22 UTC from web
              1. @scoot But the reasons for the use is not suggested... on youtube the use is suggested for something you like for the call the voting system "liking" but, I can agree it isn't the best... But I like the hierarchy of replies better than well let's say 4chan ( that place hurts my brain yet people use it with ease and finesse)

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:08:19 UTC from web
                1. @metaltao upvote and downvote are just another name for like/dislike.

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:09:04 UTC from web
                2. @metaltao 4chan is a better medium of discussion because it is entirely anonymous (no reason to clamour for attention and be popular) and all opinions are cast in equal light and nobody can climb to the top. The issue with 4chan is there are too many people on it now and it's gone to hell. Reddit's issues however are built right into their site design

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:09:30 UTC from web
                  1. @scoot Entirely anonymous except for the tripfriends*

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:10:40 UTC from web
                    1. @redenchilada Everyone's least favourite users!

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:11:24 UTC from web
                  2. @scoot I agree but something irks me..... I like to believe that the fact you don't know ho many people are actually talking to you or are just the same person (unless you look at the numbers. up above the comment) then it can be real intimidating. And people still do clamour for what you do STILL see ( this argument is flawed I just feel compelled to say this) is shock sites, shock images and allout hatred and the RISE of opinion, It becomes a battle of conflicting philosophy (AGAIN THIS ARGUMENT MUST BE FLAWED IT FEEELLSS THTA WAY) I personly can't stand talking to a face you can't see nor a voice you can't recognize for I can't make a social connection (which makes sense but THIS IS STILL FLAWED!)

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:14:41 UTC from web
                    1. @metaltao Your discussion of 4chan is flawed because it seems like you just heard about /b/ one time and your whole argument is based on that. I was on /v/ from 2007 until 2011 so I have a good understanding of how the site operates. Nobodies opinion is ever concealed or removed from regular view, that is the issue with Reddit's system. Never on 4chan will have to press a button to show a post, it's all there for all to see and comment on. You think anonymity is intimidating but you yourself would also be anonymous so they cannot see you either, ghosts aren't scared of ghosts.

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:17:32 UTC from web
                      1. @scoot I wish it wouldn't do that when I try to talk about 4chan

                        1. @scoot Would anyone mind if I removed the fake-markdown thing

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:18:57 UTC from web
                          1. @redenchilada what fake-markdown thing?

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:20:02 UTC from web
                          2. @redenchilada You mean the /example/ *example* -example- things? Those are awful

                            1. @nerthos I should just make them opt-in so the option's still there for the people who like torture

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:49:04 UTC from web
                              1. @redenchilada That's the bet option I guess. If I remember correctly it is opt-in on SBN.

                      2. @scoot If you wanna get technical, "Nobodies opinion is ever concealed" isn't entirely true thanks to filters. But those are entirely your choice to hide so it's essentially superior in every way

Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 07:20:08 UTC from web
                        1. @redenchilada Well I meant vanilla 4chan with no modifications applied.

                            1. @redenchilada I haven't been there in 3 years so I wouldn't know about that. But still that's not imposed on all users so it's fine

                      3. @scoot I now know why my argument is flawed but damn Why does it still irk me? (I guess I have a bias I have to work out... damn it not again....) Oh well, If only there was some kind of "semi anonymity".... Why am I saying this rubbish! sorry for that (Iguess I can take being wrong maybe that is why it still irks me? the fact that I was wrong seems rather hard on me and so I feel like it is not me but the subject?) ughhhhhh oh well.... I like this scoot character a lot...

                        1. @metaltao You're irked but it might just be because you've been led to have certain expectations about 4chan being a wretched hive of scum and villainy and yet it has much more ethical systems in place than everyone's favourite hub of free speech

                                  2. @scoot But of course that was just one thread and doesn't exactly represent all of 4chan's THOUSAND AND MILIONS (maybe a billion threads)
