  1. @dirtychildren I've been curious now for a while.. Why'd you choose your user name? http://goo.gl/KC7u5

Tuesday, 22-May-12 10:40:57 UTC from web
    1. @pony Well I was thinking of what should I name myself. In an instant I thought of my school and all the other schools ive gone to. Also the people Ive encountered. So thus came the name dirty children. Im thinking of changing my name to callisto though.

        1. @hakupony Actually is a moon in orbit of jupiter. It sounds like a cool name and the moon is beautiful. Also I plan on naming my OC.

          1. @dirtychildren Really? I know a character who has the name Callisto and didn't know of the meaning.

    3. @pony You should be careful with that word, the media's done a pretty good job of redefining it to mean something else in the minds of the public.

      1. @toksyuryel I'm fighting the media. To hoof with the consequences. #

        1. @pony You are very brave. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor.

          1. @toksyuryel Luckily our country explicitly protects 'pedophiles' against discrimination and hate crime.

            1. @pony If by "our country" you mean the US, that's changed rather significantly in the past several years…

              1. @toksyuryel It's nearly impossible to find anything that's not biased, but here's what I'm talking about http://republicbroadcasting.org/?p=4902

      2. @toksyuryel If I recall correctly, doesn't it mean feeling attraction to children around the age of puberty? (That, and no more, I know the media is good at making it seem everybody who belongs to that group acts upon it, though that is clearly not the case). If I'm wrong, PLEASE update me on this

Tuesday, 22-May-12 10:57:51 UTC from Choqok
        1. @omni Pretty much yes. Specifically pre-pubescent children, there is another word for it when they've hit puberty and also a different word for when they aren't yet old enough to be called children. And you're spot-on about what the media's done to the perception of it.

Tuesday, 22-May-12 10:59:58 UTC from web
          1. @toksyuryel I take everything the media states with a grain of salt. I really never take their definitions seriously. They simplify things so much that the original meaning often gets lost (I still remember one saying "A trojan is a type of file that damages your computer", which is absolute nonsense, as it doesn't cause any damage by itself, it merely allows other malicious software to damage your system). So, yeah, I do my own research, something everybody should do :P

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:03:25 UTC from Choqok
            1. @omni The problem is most people aren't that smart, they just take whatever the media feeds them. So it's important to be aware of what they think stuff means and work around it.

            2. @omni Terms are nothing as tools to bring order in the world. I think, the best thing to do if you want to understand is talking with actual people who are affected.

    4. @pony This conversation ends here and this topic never comes up in public again.

      1. @ceruleanspark Do you ever have the urge to reply to something but don't know how to and don't want to sound like you're not trusting someone's judgement? (Because I'm really not having any issue with your judgement, and I'm not really disagreeing either, but I feel like I should say something regardless albeit not knowing what)

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:22:15 UTC from Choqok
        1. @omni Well, what is it you want to say?

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:23:40 UTC from web
          1. @ceruleanspark Yeah, well, that is an issue. I can't find a single word that brings me towards what I want to say, and I can't even really define it inside of my head. I'm sorry, I should've probably just shut up =/

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:24:29 UTC from Choqok
        2. @omni If my understanding is correct, it's illegal to even discuss the subject in the UK. So, there's nothing to be done about it. The topic can't exist on this site for access to this site to remain legal in the UK. That's all there is to it.

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:27:22 UTC from web
          1. @toksyuryel plus the site is uk-hosted now

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:29:04 UTC from web
            1. @redenchilada Is it? I thought the server was hosted in the US somewhere. I know both admins are in the UK though, so that's reason enough to disallow the topic from discussion.

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:30:49 UTC from web
              1. @toksyuryel I believe so. Dragon owns/rents/somethings the server.

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:32:10 UTC from web
              2. @toksyuryel @redenchilada @omni @ceruleanspark I was unaware that there was a restriction on this kind of speech in Britain. If that's truly the case, then I understand completely.

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:34:38 UTC from web
                1. @pony Many kinds of speech are restricted outside the US, for various reasons; some good reasons, and some bad reasons, but the bottom line is that the kind of speech restrictions that exist in the country/ies where the server admins are located must be abided by the site which the run.

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:39:23 UTC from web
          2. @toksyuryel Okay, that's a good point which I can't bring anything up against (except the fact that I find such laws silly, but that won't change them)

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:29:07 UTC from Choqok
      2. @ceruleanspark I guess since you say so.. alright. I never meant to turn RDN into anything shady. I guess no matter how much explaining or justifying I try to do, that topic is too sensitive. Is it public image you're concerned about? *hides eyes"

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:36:18 UTC from web
        2. @pony It's a simple matter of legality. The subject is not legal to discuss in the UK, and as both primary admins are in the UK they would be held liable for it and access to the site could become restricted.

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:32:13 UTC from web
          1. @toksyuryel It's illegal to discuss that topic in the UK? Do you perhaps have a lik to that law - just curious.

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:35:03 UTC from web
            1. @hakupony This is only my understanding of the situation. I don't have any links to anything.

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:35:44 UTC from web
            2. @hakupony @toksyuryel I also find myself a bit incredulous at that statement. I accept it for now, but I'm upset by it and would like to understand better.

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:39:12 UTC from web
              1. @pony It's understandable the admins want to play it safe. If you are no expert in british law, you can not state it is not illegal :/

Tuesday, 22-May-12 11:40:53 UTC from web
                1. @hakupony I agree.
