even though I remember something mentioning how it's bad writing to repeatedly refer to someone indirectly like that and that it's better to just refer to them by name. I think it was on FIMFiction's writing guide

@thewaifutyphoon Yeah, the "lavender mare syndrome" thing is something I watch out for, but if it's not over the top it can be good too, the guide admits iirc.

@pony Yeah. Just as long as it's once in a while and not /every/ time you mention her.

@thewaifutyphoon I think the general rule is that it shouldn't slow the reader down or make the narrative feel awkward.

@pony well that and like, we already know she's a purple unicorn/alicorn/whatever. It's just weird and repetitive mentioning it over and over.

@thewaifutyphoon Yeah. I agree to a certain extent. As a fan of the show, I'm visually triggered by "purple pony," "mauve mare," or "lavender librarian," so that's actually nice, but there's a time and a place for it, usually somewhere at the beginning of a scene or when it's an especially descriptive part meant to create an image for the reader.
